The Children's Society

We wanted to be part of these celebrations and are delighted that we are the chosen official charity because it means we can be associated with all the events. Our supporters will enjoy all the festivities and be available to explain the importance of the work we do amongst the youngsters who need us.

The Children's Society has been active in Bath & Wells Diocese for over 100 years. We have thousands of supporters across the hundreds of parishes in Somerset. As well as raising funds for work all over the UK, we have projects in Somerset where we deliver our very special services to those who really need it.

Our Christian values drive the work of The Children's Society and are our motivation for working with children and young people. We understand our Christian mission in terms of a society that is changing - even in the last 100 years -let alone 1100! We strive to enable children to live the values of the re-ordered world of the Kingdom of God. These values are love, justice and forgiveness. The greatest of these is love

Bath + Wells 1100 Celebration

The BW1100 team were pleased to select The Children's Society as the charity to connect with the BW1100 celebrations. As well as having many supporters in our parishes, Bishop Jim Thompson is a past President of the Society and Nick Denison walked quite recently to Santiago di Composta to raise a substantial sum for the Society. Many of those that work in the Cathedral and the Old Deanery have house boxes and are regular givers. The Children's Society is part of the Church of England so they make excellent partners for the work that we do in Somerset.

The Society has agreed to participate in all the events and will contribute in many ways to the celebrations. They will be adding to the fun at the celebrations such as the July 4th event in Glastonbury and they will help with the sponsored events such as the walks towards Wells that are planned.

As we celebrate 1100 years, we will remember the service of the faithful in the past - the contribution that Christianity has made to society in Somerset. Ensuring that our children are safe, well educated, and have a good childhood have always been key activities for all Christians. The Children's Society has a substantial contribution to make to our year of celebration, and we hope that as our celebrations draw to a close we can announce new projects in our area to help, support and encourage God's Children.
